Mysuru Dasara
Dasara, the Naada Habba of Karnataka is celebration of victory of Truth over Evil. During Navaratri the cultural city Mysuru will be beautified like a bride, various cultural and regional programs will be held. The Mysuru Palace will be illuminated with 97,000 incandescent lamps known as DEEPALANKAARA in the evening for 2 hours on the first eight days and for 3 hours on Vijayadashami (the final day). The sight of the illuminated palace itself will be a feast to the eyes and makes the visit to Mysore worth it.
Dasara celebration in Mysore was started in the year 1610 by Raja Wadeyar I for celebrating the victory of truth over evil. It is believed that the Goddess Chamundeshwari of the Chamundi Hill killed Mahishasura, the buffalo-headed monster on Vijayadashami, the tenth day of the festival.
During Navrathri the Karnataka Government conducts various programs and events like cultural programs, poetry recital, flower mela, flimothsava, food mela, Yuva Dasara, etc. In the Palace His Majesty Sri Yaduveera Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar performs festivity poojas like Saraswati Pooja, Ayudha Pooja, Banni Pooja, Durga Pooja and also conducts Darbar in the decorated Darbar hall.
Jambusavaari held on the final day of Navrathri on Vijayadashami adds immense glory and elegance to the celebration. Abhimanyu, the well trained Elephant for Dasara celebration, carries the Goddess Chamundeshwari’s idol and Golden Thrown in golden barn.
